Bali New Year! Here Come the Ogo-Ogo

READ FIRST BEFORE YOU WATCH THE VIDEO
Bali New Year was quite the sight to see. As we showed you in our last video, the pre-new year cleansing ceremony, the Balinese do not skimp on the production of their celebrations. Their equivalent New Year’s Eve is one hell of a night! For 2 weeks prior to the big night each neighborhood spends day and night building and creating artistic masterpieces of diabolical demons. Each one constructed with the finest detail down to their private bits. They parade them around town in mock duels carried by 20 to 50 men at a time. Songs, Music, Chants, Fireworks and alot of Laughing is heard as the procession goes on through the night until in the wee hours then they are burned to ashes. All of this is done to chase all of the bad spirits out of the villages and towns. The day following, The New Year, all of Bali is quiet. Not a single person is to be seen. No cars, no motorbikes, no planes (airport shuts down), No one goes outside, uses electricity, cooks or makes a disturbance of any kind. The reason is if any of the demons try to come back to town… it thinks that everyone has gone and he himself would leave too. We cheated a bit and used electricity and cooked some dinner. Check out our video below and try not to get too scared.
